One of the things I’m focusing on in 2017 is having less of most things: stress, anxiety, possessions, clutter, hustle, etc. I’m taking a minimalist approach and slowly de-cluttering my life to allow room for the important things like 1) my relationship with God 2) my people (hubby/girls) 3) deeper relationships (family/friends). I’m not sure how it will all play out specifically, but I’ll try to document certain areas as time goes on.
In my quest for less stuff, I have begun purging all of the nooks, crannies, closets & shelves in our home. I started on my bedroom closet shelf and stumbled upon these verse cards. All progress came to a halt as I sat on the mound of laundry in my closet and thumbed through these 8 index cards.
I wrote these cards, at the end of 2013, to read during labor & delivery when I was pregnant with Reese (baby #2). Seeking God’s strength to deliver a sweet healthy baby, one of the happiest days of our life. When I found these cards the other day, I was shocked how relevant each and every verse was to me in this very different season of life right now. A season of grief and waiting.
God’s promises to us are unchanging. Because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8) we can have hope that no matter what our circumstances in life are: welcoming a new life, grieving a lost baby, longing for a husband, fighting for a marriage; God is good – all the time. I don’t know what season of life you are in. Maybe you’re anticipating a big life change soon, or you’re walking through some difficult waters. I hope these verses can be an encouragement to you. I would encourage you to spend some time in God’s word, praying and seeking guidance. Be comforted and encouraged by His words.
I challenge you to pick 5-10 verses and write them on note cards. Stick them somewhere you’ll come across them daily and pray these verses over your life. I’ll leave the 8 verses on my note cards below and I’d love to hear one of your favorite verses!
Isaiah 46:3-4 – “Listen to me…you whom I have upheld since you were conceived & have carried since your birth. Even to your old age & gray hair, I am He who will sustain you! I have made you & I will carry you; I will sustain you & I will rescue you.”
Isaiah 40:28-29 – “He gives strength the the weary & increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow weary and tired, & young men stumble and fall. But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run & not grow weary. They will walk & not be faint.”
Philippians 4:13 – “I can do everything, through Him who gives me strength.”
Isaiah 41:10 – “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. “
Joshua 1:9 – “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Jeremiah 1:5,8 – “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you. Before you were born I set you apart. Do not be afraid…for I am with you…declares the Lord.”
Colossians 1:11 – “Being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance & patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the father.”
Ephesians 6:10 – “Finally, be strong in the Lord and His might power.”
